Fader Mountain Open House
Saturday, 09 June 2012 00:00

The Open House at our new location was a huge success. If you missed out on all the fun, you can still book a tour and have a look around almost anytime really. There's always an intern in a lab coat at the studio waiting to give you the grand tour of our fabulous new facilites. They don't bite and neither do we, so be our guest and just ask us anytime for a tour. Over 700 people or so passed through our front doors on June 6th, and we filled the place with nothing but good feelings and smiles. We got the feeling that Fader Mountain Sound isn't just going to be a place to record, but a place to create and bring people together!

Thanks to everyone who came out and said nice things about us, and congratulations to the winners of the all the free studio time given away - we hope you enjoy every minute of it.

Fader Mountain Sound Inc.
Saturday, 25 February 2012 00:00

It was only a matter of time, and we've finally made the huge leap forward that we needed since FaderMaster Studios began more than 4 years ago. It's been a wild ride at 3424 Commercial Street, but it's off to West 7th Avenue we go. This weekend we are officially emptying Fader Master and moving all the technological glory to our new location.

Fader Master Sound Studios Inc., along with Garth Richardson and Ben Kaplan, will all be forming what will be known as Fader Mountain Sound Inc. Paul Boechler, has officially partnered with Shawn Cole, Kevin Kowal and Daniel Byrne as a FaderMaster, so the 6 of us will be taking what used to be Little Mountain Sound and turning it back into one of Vancouver's most prestigious sound studios under the name Fader Mountain Sound Inc.

It's quite a reputation to live up to, but we all believe that this is beginning of something great, not only for us, but for all of our existing and future clients. We expect to be operational at the new location if possible by March 2012.

Same phone, same e-mails and the same great people you've come to know over the past 4 years, but with more space, more machines and even more great people!

We hope you are as excited as we are. Obviously this will be a very busy time for us, but we hope to be back in full swing as a working studio as soon as possible.

We hope to have a great open house in early June 2012, so please stay tuned.

MUSIQUE CONCRÈTE

(French: concrete music) A development introduced in Paris in 1948 by Pierre Schaeffer at the studio of the French Radio (O.R.T.F.). Its aim was to replace traditional musical material with recorded (i.e. concrete) sounds which were then manipulated by FILTERing, tape reversal, TAPE LOOPs, speed changes, tape SPLICEs, or other electronic means. The source of all sounds, however, was environmental. The experimental side of this study developed the concept of l'objet sonore.

SOUND EFFECT

A pre-recorded or simulated sound produced for a radio, television, film or theatrical program in order to suggest an actual sonic environment. The design of such sounds (often abbreviated as SFX), particularly when a complex acoustic environment is to be simulated, involves a thorough understanding of the structure of such a SOUNDSCAPE; that is, what sounds are representative and most significant, as well as which are necessary to create a given AMBIENCE and sense of ACOUSTIC SPACE.

MAGNETIC TAPE

The most commonly used medium for recording sound. It is manufactured in various widths (1/4, 1/2 and one inch primarily) and thicknesses (3.0, 1.5, 1 and .5 mil where 1 mil = 1/1000 inch) for different purposes, which now include video and digital recording.

DICHOTIC

When sounds are conducted separately and independently to each ear via tubes or headphones, the sounds are said to be heard dichotically. In various psychoacoustic experiments, isolation of the function of each ear is desirable, such as in the testing or simulation of BINAURAL HEARING with the PRECEDENCE EFFECT, or in testing preferences for different sounds presented simultaneously to separate ears.
