Fader Mountain Open House
Saturday, 09 June 2012 00:00

The Open House at our new location was a huge success. If you missed out on all the fun, you can still book a tour and have a look around almost anytime really. There's always an intern in a lab coat at the studio waiting to give you the grand tour of our fabulous new facilites. They don't bite and neither do we, so be our guest and just ask us anytime for a tour. Over 700 people or so passed through our front doors on June 6th, and we filled the place with nothing but good feelings and smiles. We got the feeling that Fader Mountain Sound isn't just going to be a place to record, but a place to create and bring people together!

Thanks to everyone who came out and said nice things about us, and congratulations to the winners of the all the free studio time given away - we hope you enjoy every minute of it.

Fader Mountain Sound Inc.
Saturday, 25 February 2012 00:00

It was only a matter of time, and we've finally made the huge leap forward that we needed since FaderMaster Studios began more than 4 years ago. It's been a wild ride at 3424 Commercial Street, but it's off to West 7th Avenue we go. This weekend we are officially emptying Fader Master and moving all the technological glory to our new location.

Fader Master Sound Studios Inc., along with Garth Richardson and Ben Kaplan, will all be forming what will be known as Fader Mountain Sound Inc. Paul Boechler, has officially partnered with Shawn Cole, Kevin Kowal and Daniel Byrne as a FaderMaster, so the 6 of us will be taking what used to be Little Mountain Sound and turning it back into one of Vancouver's most prestigious sound studios under the name Fader Mountain Sound Inc.

It's quite a reputation to live up to, but we all believe that this is beginning of something great, not only for us, but for all of our existing and future clients. We expect to be operational at the new location if possible by March 2012.

Same phone, same e-mails and the same great people you've come to know over the past 4 years, but with more space, more machines and even more great people!

We hope you are as excited as we are. Obviously this will be a very busy time for us, but we hope to be back in full swing as a working studio as soon as possible.

We hope to have a great open house in early June 2012, so please stay tuned.

Rocktober
Saturday, 01 October 2011 00:00

Ok, so we're hard up for a proper title for our October studio blog. But what can we do when we barely have enough time to write this? With summer officially over and fall officially well under way, and the Vancouver rain starting, the studio is getting cozy again. Engineers huddling around the outboard gear to keep warm, while bands snuggle in blankets in the live room between takes. Well, not really, but that would be great studio webcam footage.

So what's new? At the moment, a ton of mixing and some overdubbing for various projects. Looks like some new projects will be starting up with some bed tracking in a couple of weeks also. Jesse Cambridge, Ma Petite, Roche Limit, Treelines, Jesse LeBourdais, Matt Mattson and Juvie are just some of the artists passing through our faders this month!

COMPRESSION

The control of sound levels to ensure suitable placement between the lowest and highest distortion-free levels of an electroacoustical system.

REVERBERATION

Reverberation is a result of multiple REFLECTIONs. A SOUND WAVE in an enclosed or semi-enclosed environment will be broken up as it is bounced back and forth among the reflecting surfaces. Reverberation is, in effect, a multiplicity of ECHOes whose speed of repetition is too quick for them to be perceived as separate from one another. W.C. Sabine established the official period of reverberation as the time required by a sound in a space to decrease to one-millionth of its original strength.

MONOPHONIC

(Greek: monos = one; phone = sound) A form of reproduction which records, transmits and reproduces the original sound along a single CHANNEL, regardless of the number of loudspeakers used. All components of the sound are combined or MIXed into one SIGNAL, including AMBIENCE and REVERBERATION, and therefore only the sense of depth may be simulated or reproduced.

PHASING

Also called flanging or flangeing. An effect created by adding together two identical SIGNALs separated by a very short time delay (less than 25 ms, but strongest below 10 ms). These short delays are within the audio WAVELENGTH range, and the combination of the two signals affects the frequency SPECTRUM of the composite sound.
